Privacy policy.
The short version: we collect what you send us through the contact form, plus standard server access logs. We do not sell or share it. Write to contact@cave17.org with any question.
Who we are
The Augmented Work (this site, theaugmented.work) is owned and
operated by cave LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. In this policy,
"we", "us", and "our" mean cave LLC.
What we collect
We collect a small, well-defined set of information:
- Contact form submissions. When you fill in the form on /contact, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message you entered.
- Newsletter subscriptions. When you submit the subscribe form, we receive the email address you entered and add it to our list at Resend.
- Server access logs. Our web server records standard request metadata for each visit: IP address, user-agent string, timestamp, and the URL you requested.
- Analytics (only if you opt in). If you click "Accept" on the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics 4 to count visits and measure which essays land. See the next section for details.
Cookies & analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, to understand which essays readers find and finish. We do not run advertising, retargeting, or audience-building features on the GA4 property; the integration is configured for aggregate measurement only.
We use Google's Consent Mode v2. By default, analytics cookies are denied — the GA library may load but it cannot store identifiers on your device or attribute beacons to you. Only after you click "Accept" on the cookie banner do we update consent to allow the standard GA cookies:
_ga— distinguishes unique users; expires after 2 years._ga_<property-id>— session state; expires after 2 years.
IP addresses sent to GA are anonymised. We have configured the GA4 property to retain event-level data for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
You can change your mind at any time. The button below clears your stored choice and re-opens the banner.
Why we collect it
- The contact form: so we can read your message and reply to you.
- Newsletter subscriptions: so we can email you new essays.
- Server logs: to keep the site running, diagnose problems, and detect abuse.
- Analytics (if you consent): so we can see which essays readers actually finish and where they come from — at an aggregate level, not per-person.
Who else sees it
- Resend (transactional email + newsletter list) processes the contents of the contact form to deliver it to our inbox, and stores newsletter subscribers' email addresses on our behalf.
- Google (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC) processes analytics data described above, only after you opt in.
- DigitalOcean (our hosting provider) operates the server that serves this site and sees standard request logs.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data to anyone.
How long we keep it
- Messages sent to us are kept in our inbox until the conversation is resolved, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Server access logs are rotated within 30 days.
Your rights
You can write to contact@cave17.org at any time to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. We will reply in writing.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will carry a short note at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
